Humans have lived on the earth for at least 28 thousand years. By the end of the 20th century a man had been sent to the moon. Technological developments made it possible. We are also accomplished at killing and destruction. In the same century there were 188 million such deaths; 83 million by genocide and tyranny, 42 million military deaths, 19 million civilian deaths, and 44 million deaths by famine.
Everyday I read and see the news. Presently what predominates is the war in Iraq and Afghanistan; the conflict between Palestine and Israel; the genocide in areas of Africa; the intolerance by the Chinese to the Buddhist monks in Tibet. In places in America I notice disdain for minority groups such as Native Americans or African Americans, Latinos, women, gays and lesbians, undereducated, poor, and physically impaired.
I feel the frustration, pain, and despair.
